Mr. Michael Sabia was appointed Chair of the Board of Canada Infrastructure Bank in April 2020. Currently the Director of the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, Mr. Sabia brings a wealth of experience in the public and private sectors to this new role with the Canada Infrastructure Bank.
Mr. Sabia has brought leadership and innovation to countless roles, including his last post as the President and Chief Executive Officer of La Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) —a role he served in from 2009 until 2020. During his tenure he helped rebuild la CDPQ into a global financial institution and made it a leader for investors working to address climate change and urban infrastructure.
Prior to joining la CDPQ, Mr. Sabia was CEO of Bell Canada Enterprises and CFO of Canadian National Railway. He began his career in the public sector, first at the Department of Finance before becoming the Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet, Priorities and Plans, in the Privy Council Office.
Mr. Sabia has served on many international and Canadian advisory councils, including as co-chair on the G7 Investor Leadership Network on Climate Change, Diversity and Infrastructure Development. Among other accomplishments, in 2017 he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada for his outstanding contributions to the Canadian business sector.
Mr. Sabia holds a bachelor’s degree in political economy from the University of Toronto, as well as a graduate degree in political economy and PhD studies and teaching at Yale University.
