Project Name: City of Edmonton Retrofits
Partner: City of Edmonton
Location: Edmonton, Alberta
Sector: Green Infrastructure
Participation: Project Acceleration
Description: As part of a Project Acceleration initiative, the CIB signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Edmonton and will act as an advisor to the City on its building retrofit initiative, which is designed to improve the energy efficiency of its existing buildings.
The work includes:
- conducting energy audits
- developing a viable business case for an investment to improve the energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions of the City’s existing buildings
- developing new approaches to modernizing the City’s assets
The CIB’s Public Building Retrofits Initiative (PRI) seeks to achieve significant energy savings and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction by working with the public sector to review their asset portfolios from a holistic perspective. The PRI provides financing for decarbonization retrofits in publicly owned buildings in Canada. By taking advantage of the CIB’s funding, municipalities have an opportunity to lower the long-term operations and maintenance costs of their buildings.
Benefits of the CIB Involvement
The CIB will work with the public sector to review their asset portfolios from a holistic perspective and develop energy retrofit opportunities which support ambitious greenhouse gas reduction goals. The CIB aims to create a model for investment and procurement of high performance energy projects.
