Supplying Nova Scotia’s electrical grid with more clean power

New wind project is delivering sustainable power for Nova Scotians

Fast facts

17 wind turbines producing 100 MW of zero-emission power to the local grid
100 workers were employed at peak of construction with permanent jobs created for ongoing operations
Reducing energy-based emissions by more than 200,000 t annually

We invested $118 million in the Higgins Mountain Wind facility, located between Colchester and Cumberland Counties in Nova Scotia. The CIB’s investment enabled the construction of 17 new wind turbines producing 100 MW of zero-emission power for Nova Scotians.

Now complete, the wind facility is supporting Nova Scotia’s transition from coal to renewable energy, with an expected reduction of over 200,000 t of emissions annually. This project contributes to the province’s objective of sourcing 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030 while creating long-term employment opportunities in operations and maintenance.

Benefits of the CIB’s involvement

The CIB fills financing gaps on projects where public and private investment are both required. Our long-term capital ensures critical, large-scale clean energy infrastructure projects are built and renewable generation is integrated into the province’s electricity grid.

This project is part of the CIB’s Clean Energy priority sector which aims to accelerate emissions reductions.
