Director, Investments

The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) is working in partnership with governments, Indigenous communities and the private sector to invest $35 billion in infrastructure that benefits Canadians. By attracting and leveraging private sector and institutional investment in revenue-generating infrastructure projects in the public interest, we are building a portfolio of investments in key sectors including transit, clean power, green infrastructure, trade & transportation and broadband that will foster economic growth, connect Canadians and contribute to the sustainability of infrastructure in Canada.

The Director, Investments is an active member of the CIB Investments team and is involved in all aspects of screening, due diligence, and execution of investment opportunities.

Daily responsibilities will vary with time and include business development, understanding market fundamentals including but not limited to carbon markets, screening potential investment opportunities, performing complex financial modeling, completing sector analysis and transaction due diligence, drafting of investment memoranda, and participating in investment decision-making processes.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and knowledge in finance, private equity, equity research, investment banking, or advisory.


Your responsibilities include:

  • Assist in developing a pipeline of potential investment opportunities by establishing and maintaining a network of contacts in the public and private sectors across Canada and the infrastructure industry
  • Conduct market research on carbon pricing regimes, forecasts and their impact on industries
  • Lead due diligence on investment opportunities
  • Lead the execution of financial models, project finance/ infrastructure models, valuation analyses, and any additional needed financial analyses
  • Lead the preparation and presentation of proposals and pitchbooks
  • Source and evaluate potential investment opportunities
  • Ad hoc responsibilities consistent with a growing and evolving function

Your ideal profile

  • 10 plus years of relevant investing experience
  • A University undergraduate Degree in a related field (Finance, Engineering, Accounting, or Science)
  • Completion of a Master’s degree in Business or Finance, or a CFA or CPA designation is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated experience with capital structuring at the corporate or project level, and leading all aspects of the transaction cycle (such as client and stakeholder negotiations, influencing stakeholders and managing legal and technical consultants)
  • Preference will be given to those with direct modeling or due diligence experience related to energy infrastructure or industrial facilities
  • Experience with Government agencies is an asset
  • Self-starter with strong project management skills, relationship building skills, leadership skills
  • Highly collaborative team player
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual (French and English) written and verbal is considered an asset
