Supporting high-speed internet deployment in Northumberland County and Alderville First Nation

Financing will close an infrastructure gap by connecting underserved households.

Fast facts

New internet service access to 11,000 households, including 381 Indigenous households in the Alderville First Nation
The CIB’s financing allows broadband connectivity to expand in unserved and underserved communities at a quicker pace
Investment co-ordinated under Canada’s Universal Broadband Fund

Broadband service is critical to the daily lives of Canadians. It is essential for our quality of life, connecting us to business, health care, education and to family and friends.

The CIB is collaborating with Windsor Private Capital to accelerate the delivery of high-speed internet projects in underserved Ontario communities, including a First Nation.

The deployment of new, reliable broadband services through more than 1,100 km of new aerial and buried fibre, serviced by Windsor Private Capital-owned Axle Telecom, will improve many facets of people’s everyday life. It is an absolute necessity for Canadians to fully participate in the digital world.

Benefits of the CIBs involvement

Due to the low population density and current lack of broadband infrastructure, the cost of connection per household is very high and not commercially viable. Our innovative solution with low financing rates will allow the project delivery at a quicker pace and lower cost to implement.
