Early planning, engagement and technical work to inform next steps for the Mactaquac site
Fast facts
The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) is providing a $219 million loan to support site development activities for the Mactaquac Generating Station.
NB Power and the Province of New Brunswick will lead work which includes engineering and environmental investigations, regulatory reviews along with First Nations and community engagement activities.
The station is a 672-megawatt run-of-river dam and generating station located on the Saint John River, west of Fredericton. It provides clean, reliable and low-cost electricity, providing 20 per cent of the capacity needed to meet peak electricity demand.

Benefits of the CIB’s involvement
The CIB’s loan supports NB Power’s and the Province of New Brunswick’s assessment for the Mactaquac site.
The CIB’s cost-effective financing package helps reduce energy ratepayer impacts.
The investment is aligned with the CIB’s Clean Energy priority sector, which has a target of at least $20 billion in capital to help increase energy supply and security, advance clean power generation and distribution, create jobs, reduce emissions and make the transition to new energy projects more affordable for ratepayers.
