Port Hawkesbury Paper to build one of Nova Scotia’s largest wind energy projects
168-megawatt wind project at Goose Harbour Lake will deliver clean electricity while including Indigenous equity participation
Fast facts
We are investing in Nova Scotia’s largest wind farm to be built by Port Hawkesbury Paper.
The project includes construction and installation of 24 wind turbines at Goose Harbour Lake that are expected to supply 168 megawatts of zero-emission sustainable electricity.
The wind power project will support the paper mill’s daily operations and Nova Scotia’s energy grid. The paper mill is the largest industrial user of electricity in the province.
The wind farm is expected to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by nearly 357,000 tonnes a year, equivalent to 2.4 per cent of Nova Scotia’s emissions in 2021, and help the province’s energy transition, moving from coal to renewables.
Benefits of CIB Involvement
The project falls within the CIB’s Clean Power sector, which supports developing more clean power generation, distribution and use through $10 billion of available capital.
CIB’s involvement can enable a faster build out of the project providing a lower cost facility consistent with Nova Scotia’s commitment of achieving 80% of generation via renewable energy by 2030 and their off-coal obligations.
