Improving the availability of clean water in Manitoba’s second largest city

New water and wastewater infrastructure supports growth and development

Fast facts

Improves the water treatment facility and relieves water and wastewater capacity constraints
Provides clean drinking water to the equivalent of over 47,000 households
Supports the City of Brandon’s future development of approximately 2,300 new houses

The CIB’s loan alongside Fusion Credit Union’s lending allows the City of Brandon to improve and expand its water and wastewater infrastructure.

Strengthened water and wastewater systems will supply residents, businesses, and industries with safe water as well as treatment and discharge of wastewater and storm water runoff.

Water infrastructure upgrades include a new membrane treatment, intake, yard piping, and a settling pond to address flooding and drought concerns and ensure continued access to source water. The wastewater project includes new lift stations, gravity trunk sewer, force main, and upgrades to the South End lift station.

The project increases the capacity for water treatment at the City of Brandon’s facility and support for residential and commercial growth in southwest Brandon, and helps the facility meet the regulatory standards necessary to serve its households and businesses.

All water and wastewater infrastructure will remain publicly procured, owned and operated by the City of Brandon.

Benefits of CIB Involvement

By investing in new water and wastewater infrastructure, the CIB provides the City of Brandon with the financial certainty to plan for municipal growth and future housing development opportunities, while meeting regulatory standards.

This investment fall under the CIB’s Infrastructure for Housing Initiative, whereby the CIB provides loans to municipalities for enabling infrastructure needed for new housing and community growth.
