Export capacity to increase at one of Canada’s busiest ports in Prince Rupert, B.C.
Investment supports start of project to build an export transloading hub at Prince Rupert Port
Fast facts
Our $150 million investment supports the first phase of the Prince Rupert Port Authority’s CANXPORT logistics project. The new export transloading hub will help improve the flow of Canadian exports by expanding the capacity and volume of containers passing through one of Canada’s busiest ports. It will also increase match-back rates by increasing the number of loaded container units that are exported from Canada.
The loan will support initial work to prepare the site on Ridley Island for construction of a logistics hub facility by Ray-Mont Logistics Inc. that will increase exports of commodities such as resins, grain, wood and pulp.
Benefits of CIB involvement
The CIB’s first port investment will help to increase the efficiency and reliability of supply chains for bulk commodities that are best suited for containerization.
Local Indigenous partners will be active participants in the development and operation of CANXPORT. The primary contract for Ridley Island site development has been awarded to an Indigenous joint venture arrangement that includes Metlakatla First Nation, Lax Kw’alaams Band, Gitxaała Nation and IDL Projects Inc. Metlakatla and Lax Kw’alaams are also majority owners of Gat Leedm Logistics, which will be a primary service provider of truck drayage services.
