Advancing analysis on critical minerals infrastructure
The CIB is cost-sharing an infrastructure feasibility study.
Fast facts
The Province of Manitoba has identified several infrastructure projects and enhancements required to advance its critical minerals sector. The objective of Manitoba’s feasibility studies is to refine this list, resulting in recommendations which are anticipated to best facilitate significant growth in Manitoba’s production of critical minerals.
The study will assess projected demands and investment opportunities to facilitate mining operations, processing facilities, and transportation networks in Manitoba. This includes, but is not limited to, roads, rail, airports, shipping facilities, airship potential, utilities, and telecommunication needs in the province’s remote areas.
Benefits of the CIB’s involvement
Canada’s critical minerals sector can face obstacles in attracting long-term private capital to finance projects due to the generally uncertain nature of revenues. The CIB can use innovative loans to advance the enabling infrastructure needed to move critical mineral projects forward.
This enabling infrastructure can take many years to plan and develop and are often delayed due to limited availability of feasibility funding. Our accelerator loans are used to expedite project assessment work.
