Advancing due diligence work on greenfield irrigation infrastructure
The CIB is cost-sharing on an irrigable land, system upgrade and feasibility study.
Fast facts
Niagara Region is a leading producer of specialty crops and new investment means more irrigated acres, long-term stability for growers and local jobs, all of which contribute to Ontario’s economy.
A joint feasibility assessment will determine whether there is an opportunity for investment in a large-scale greenfield irrigation infrastructure project. Some key indicators under review include potential project scale, environmental, social and economic impacts as well as capital costs and delivery infrastructure.
Benefits of the CIB’s involvement
Agricultural sector growth can face obstacles in attracting long-term private capital to finance projects due to the generally uncertain nature of revenues. The CIB uses innovative financing to invest in projects which face these challenges.
The accelerator investment from the CIB is expected to help finalize development costs and project scope to advance the project to a shovel-ready state.
