Large-scale, low-carbon e-methanol plant near Montreal, Quebec

Creating jobs during construction and operations

Fast facts

Building North America’s first large-scale, low-carbon e-methanol plant
Will use clean hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide to produce fuel source
E-methanol is a key solution to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping and aviation

StormFisher Hydrogen, a Canadian low-carbon energy solutions company, acquired Varennes Carbon Recycling in 2025. At the redeveloped plant, new technology will combine hydrogen with captured carbon dioxide to produce an expected 72,000 tonnes of low carbon e-methanol annually. By sourcing carbon dioxide from local emitters, the project will help reduce emissions in the province of Quebec. More than 100,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide are expected to be captured and repurposed annually.

The methanol produced will be marketed to support the decarbonization of the maritime industry by providing a more sustainable alternative to fossil fuels.
