CIB supports fourth wind project in Nova Scotia

Wind farm joint venture will be majority owned by Glooscap First Nation

Fast facts

Weavers Mountain will generate 94.4 MW of clean, renewable power
Desjardins Group to provide $105.6 million credit facility
Estimated to create approximately 150 jobs during construction phase
Wind farm to be majority owned by Glooscap First Nation

We are investing in our fourth wind project in Nova Scotia.

The CIB’s $117.4 million loan to project partners Glooscap First Nation and SWEB Development will support the construction of 16 wind turbines that will generate 94.4 megawatts of clean electricity.

The wind project will result in an annual reduction of about 221,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, equivalent to about 1.5% of Nova Scotia’s total emissions in 2022.

Benefits of the CIB’s involvement

The project falls within the CIB’s Clean Power sector, which has a $10 billion target to help increase energy supply and security, advance clean power generation, distribution and use and make the transition to new energy projects more affordable for ratepayers.

Developers and industry are seeing the opportunity for large-scale wind projects in Nova Scotia. With the Weavers Mountain project, the Mi’kmaq of Nova Scotia and industry are partnering to bring green jobs, help stabilize electricity rates and add more clean electricity to our grid. Advancing wind projects like this one is how we use our natural resource to our best advantage.
