Project Name: City of Brampton Zero-Emission Buses
Partner: City of Brampton
Location: Brampton, Ontario
Sector: Public Transit
Participation: Up to $400 million
Description: The CIB is collaborating with the City Brampton on its zero-emission bus (ZEB) expansion – one of the largest conversions of public transit vehicles in Canada. Up to 450 ZEBs will be procured by Brampton Transit with the assistance of the CIB’s investment.
ZEBs are quieter and expected to have lower maintenance and fueling costs compared to equivalent greenhouse gas emissions (GHG)-emitting vehicles. Transitioning to a fully electric ZEB fleet is critical a step in the City’s plan to reduce GHGs generated in Brampton by 80 per cent by 2050 and creating a Green City.
The CIB will finance a portion of the ZEBs purchase and be repaid from cost savings from the ZEBs as measured against costs of an equivalent GHG-emitting bus.
Benefits of the CIB Involvement
The CIB’s zero-emission bus initiative assists transit agencies and school boards transition their fleets to modern, environmentally friendly vehicles. The CIB‘s financing, in the form of direct loans, can cover the higher upfront capital cost of ZEBs and charging infrastructure versus diesel buses. The CIB enables partners to take advantage of flexible financing options to modernize their bus fleets on an accelerated basis.
